T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy will take on a distinct pink hue on Saturday when the Kingaroy Rugby League Club hosts a “Playing For A Cure” day to raise funds for cancer research.<\/p>\n

The fundraising day will feature a full round of junior games against the Nanango Stags, an U16s game against Gatton and a Round 3 match from the A Grade Burnett Championship between Kingaroy and Gayndah, due to kick off at 3:30pm.<\/p>\n

Other A Grade games will be played at Cherbourg, Monto and Muundubbera.<\/p>\n

Last weekend’s top-of-the-table Burnett Championship A Grade clash between Wondai and Eidsvold, played at Wondai, promised much and fans weren’t disappointed, with the scores locked with 15 minutes left in the game.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The match began with a minute’s silence in respect of well-known Wondai resident Dean ‘Tiny” Wagenmakers who died unexpectedly on June 11.<\/p>\n

The hooter had then barely sounded when Eidsvold were in for their first try, via Stanley Bligh – the first of his double for the day.<\/p>\n

Wondai quickly replied and the arm-wrestle between the two sides began.<\/p>\n

At half-time, Wondai led 14-12 with the Wolves grabbing the lead through a Jarred Porter try with just seconds left on the clock.<\/p>\n

Eidsvold’s big men were a tough challenge for Wondai, but the Wolves’ attackers persisted, forcing the Eagles into a errors which were converted into coring opportunities for Wondai.<\/p>\n

With 15 minutes left in the game, Simionie Finau scored for Eidsvold. Stanley Bligh’s conversion evened the score at 18-all.<\/p>\n

But from that point, it was all Wondai, who were enjoying playing in front of their home crowd. Shane Borninkhof scored two tries and Jack McDowall put on a display of strength.\u00a0 McDowall was placed on his back by the Eidsvold defenders but he simple reached over and placed the ball over the line.<\/p>\n

The full-time score was Wondai 34, Eidsvold 18.<\/p>\n

Wondai tries were scored by Tua Peti (2), Shane Borninkhof (2),\u00a0 Jarred Porter, Kobi Meehan and Jack McDowall. Kicks were by Danny Alberts (2) and Luke Hodges.<\/p>\n

Eidsvold try scorers were: Stanley Bligh (2), Himi Lote Lutai and Simionie Finau. Stanley Bligh kicked the only conversion.<\/p>\n
