A kitchen is usually a place where only culinary artists perfect their craft. But in the South Burnett, one woman’s kitchen led to the creation of an arts group instead.<\/p>\n

It all began a few years ago when Andrea White began inviting friends over to her kitchen for soup and a chat.<\/p>\n

One of them was award-winning South Burnett artist Gary Eyre, and during the course of a few meetings he suggested they all get together to learn from and inspire one another.<\/p>\n

The Soup Kitchen Art Group was born out of that.<\/p>\n

And this month locals can get to see a wide range of artworks created by the group’s members.<\/p>\n

“Flights Of Fancy” is a collection of works on display at the Kingaroy Art Gallery this month.<\/p>\n

Most of them have never been seen before, but a few paintings which won awards at last year’s Nanango Art Show will be familiar to some.<\/p>\n

The exhibition opened earlier this month, and had its official opening on Saturday.<\/p>\n

This month the Gallery is also displaying “Mermaids and Monsters” in Gallery 3, a photographic exhibition created by Brisbane-based photographer Meg Green.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meg is the daughter of Cr Garry Green and his wife Mary, and grew up in Nanango.<\/p>\n

Her underwater shots capture everything from seals to whales – sometimes with whimsy, sometimes with drama.<\/p>\n

And in the Youth Gallery, students from St Mary’s Catholic College have a small selection of works on display as well.<\/p>\n
