Ryan Corr, one of the stars of ‘The Water Diviner’, will be this year’s special guest star at the Big Screen Film Festival, which will be held at the Nanango Cultural Centre from Friday to Sunday<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ryan Corr will be arriving in the South Burnett this Friday, June 12, as the special guest for this year\u2019s Big Screen Film Festival. And film buffs will be able to meet him in person on Friday night.<\/p>\n

The 2015 Festival is being brought to the region by Canberra’s National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) in partnership with South Burnett Regional Council and supported by Heritage Nanango Community Branch and Screen Queensland.<\/p>\n

Ryan Corr will be appearing at Friday’s Red Carpet Opening Night at the Nanango Cultural Centre ahead of a screening of “The Water Diviner” (rated M).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Water Diviner is a moving story of love, hope, sacrifice and family.<\/p>\n

It was directed by and stars Russell Crowe as Australian farmer Connor, who travels to Turkey after the battle of Gallipoli to discover the fate of his sons (played by Corr, James Fraser and Ben O\u2019Toole) who’ve been reported missing in action.<\/p>\n

“I’m very much looking forward to coming to Nanango for some good movies, good weather and good people!” Corr said.<\/p>\n

This year’s movie festival marks Big Screen\u2019s 9th year in Nanango.<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said he was looking forward to this year’s program after the film festival notched up record attendances last year.<\/p>\n

“This Festival is a cultural highlight that Council are immensely proud of,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Council\u2019s lobbying and support has been in recognition of what this festival means to our community.<\/p>\n

“And with such a great line up of movies over the weekend and winter weather, it’s a perfect time to catch one or a few great new Australian films in Nanango.”<\/p>\n

The program also includes a Gala Fundraiser on Saturday evening, with a screening of Manny Lewis starring comedian Carl Barron. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This session is sure to be a highlight screening of the festival, because $5 from every ticket sold will be donated to the Mayor\u2019s Community Benefit Fund.<\/p>\n

Another highlight of this year\u2019s festival is a family screening of Paper Planes along with the inaugural Heritage Nanango Community Branch Paper Plane Championship on Sunday, June 14,at 10:00am.<\/p>\n

Paper plane experts Dylan Parker and James Norton, aka The Paper Pilots, will introduce the film.<\/p>\n

“A big thank you must go to Heritage Bank Nanango who continue to support Big Screen,” Mayor Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

“Without their financial assistance, the quality of event being presented this weekend wouldn’t be able to happen.<\/p>\n

A number of other wonderful Australian films will also grace the screen over the weekend, including a Friday matinee screening of Felony, starring Joel Edgerton; and Charlie\u2019s Country screening on Saturday morning, starring award-winning actor David Gulpilil.<\/p>\n

Sunday afternoon will see a free screening of the digitally restored Australian classic Newsfront at 1:00pm, and Strangerland starring Nicole Kidman and Hugo Weaving at 3:30pm.<\/p>\n

Tickets are on sale at South Burnett Regional Council offices, Thorps Jewellers in Kingaroy Shoppingworld and at the door prior to all screenings, unless sold out.<\/p>\n
