There are now thousands of varieties grown all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>There is a kaleidoscope of colours from red to pink, and green to yellow.<\/p>\n<p>Apple textures range from crisp and firm to soft and juicy, and flavours contrast from sweet to tart.<\/p>\n<p>With all the diverse climates that apples grow, there is a variety for all seasons; in fact apples are available all year round.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the common varieties you may find on Australian grocery store shelves are::<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Royal Gala<\/strong> which have a sweet perfumed flavour and are great is salads or for apple sauce\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Golden Delicious<\/strong> are very popular for cooking, especially as a pie filling or baked into muffins or tea cakes\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Red Delicious<\/strong> are a sweet, crisp texture and are great eaten fresh or chopped into salads\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Granny Smith<\/strong> apples are a firm with a slightly tart flesh that cooks well in baked items and is also balances out the sweetness in fruit salads\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pink Lady<\/strong> apples have a very decorative coloured skin, are sweet with firm flesh that eat great both fresh or cooked\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sundowners<\/strong> are a red apple and are fantastic for eating fresh\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Other varieties include <strong>Jonathan<\/strong>, <strong>Jazz<\/strong>, <strong>Fuji<\/strong>, <strong>Jonagold<\/strong> and <strong>Braeberne<\/strong>.\n<\/ul>\n<p>All apples are rich in vitamin C and fibre, so they&#8217;re a very healthy snack and versatile ingredient.<\/p>\n<p>There are so many types available to suit any taste, so even if you are an orange kind of person, consider giving apples a go. <\/p>\n<p>You may just discover how much you like them apples!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Basked Cinnamon Apples<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/apples.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/apples.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"apples\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-110101\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/apples.png 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/apples-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/apples-50x50.png 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 teaspoon butter\n<li>2 tablespoons brown sugar\n<li>3 teaspoons vanilla sugar\n<li>3 teaspoons ground cinnamon\n<li>1 teaspoon ground nutmeg\n<li>6 large apples &#8211; peeled, cored, and sliced\n<li>3 1\/2 tablespoons water\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 175<sup>o<\/sup>C (350<sup>o<\/sup>F)\n<li>Grease a large baking dish with the butter.\n<li>Mix brown sugar, vanilla sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl.\n<li>Layer about 1\/3 of the apples in the prepared baking dish;
