The Nanango Stags hosted a crowd of 1100 people on Saturday for the Grand Finals of the South Burnett rugby league competition.<\/p>\n

Premiership titles were decided in the U12s, U14s \u00a0and U16s, and the A Grade battle between Cherbourg and Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

As well, \u00a0the two South Burnett U18s teams – Murgon and Kingaroy – played for the South Burnett title. Both teams competed in the Bundaberg competition this year, with Kingaroy taking out the Premiership title last weekend.<\/p>\n

Under 12s<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Red Ants defeated the Murgon Mustangs 16-10 in what ground announcer Des McCallum described as a “cracking good game of football”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tryscorers for Kingaroy were Zac Walters, Jayden Maher and Conner Sullivan; with goals to Tom Pratt and Conner Sullivan. For Murgon, Cohen Beggs and Mitch Wilson scored tries, and Jarrell Sullivan kicked one goal.<\/p>\n

Under 14s<\/strong><\/p>\n

With their coachload of enthusiastic fans making it seem almost like a home game, the Central Burnett Brumbies defeated the hard-working Nanango Stags 39-22 in a match where the eventual scoreline didn’t reflect the closeness of the contest.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At half-time the score was 16-8 in favour of the Brumbies. Nanango fought back gamely in the second half with tries to Tino Johnson, Liam Osborne and Jeremy Ehrlich putting the Stags in the lead 22-16.<\/p>\n

But then the Brumbies replied with three tries of their own and a field goal. Right on full-time, the Central Burnett’s Kyle Crofts scored his second try (and then converted it) to blow out the scoreline.<\/p>\n

The Nanango side was obviously disappointed with the loss but they should take heart from the fact they beat all other South Burnett teams to reach the Grand Final.<\/p>\n

This is the first Premiership that Central Burnett has achieved since joining the South Burnett competition.<\/p>\n

Tryscorers for Central Burnett were Kyle Crofts (2), Matali Havili (2), Matt Emmerton, Darian Jackson, Tom Jameson; goals Ciaran Dougherty 4 (and one field goal), Kyle Crofts<\/p>\n

For Nanango, tries were scored by \u00a0Thomas Batt, Tino Johnson (2), Liam Osborne and Jeremy Ehrlich; Jeremy Ehrlich kicked one goal.<\/p>\n

The Red Ants were flying high in their U16s Grand Final against the Central Burnett Brumbies<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Under 16s<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kingaroy sealed its undefeated season in the U16s with an emphatic 50-4 victory over Central Burnett in the Grand Final.<\/strong><\/p>\n

John Judge opened the scoring, and the Red Ants then proceeded to pile on the points courtesy of tries to Marcus Jensen (3) and Brody Hatchman (2).<\/p>\n

At half-time the score was 28-0.<\/p>\n

After the break, the Red Ants picked up where they’d left off with tries to Nathan Bowering, Brody Hatchman (2) and Peter Hourn.<\/p>\n

With the score and 50-nil, and just four minutes left in the game, Andrew Seabrook managed to cross the line for the Brumbies to restore some pride before full-time.<\/p>\n

Goal kickers for Kingaroy were Marcus Jensen, Peter Hourn (2) and Mitchell Crossley (2)<\/p>\n

At the end of the U16s match, a special presentation was made to former South Burnett Junior Rugby League secretary Karen Brockhurst<\/strong>, who retired in 2010.<\/p>\n

Current SBJRL Secretary Lisa Weir presented Karen with a Life Membership pin and jacket.<\/p>\n

Under 18s<\/strong><\/p>\n

The South Burnett’s two U18s teams – who had been competing in the Bundaberg U18s competition – played two 30-minute halves to determine the South Burnett winner.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Murgon, who were eliminated during the finals of the Bundaberg competition, were at a disadvantage coming up against Premiership winners Kingaroy because of a three-week break away from playing.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs opened the scoring with a try to Keiran Thompson, but Kingaroy’s Chris Ostwald soon replied.<\/p>\n

At half-time Kingaroy led 20-6 with tries to Ostwald (3) and Sean Harris; Scott Evans had kicked two conversions.<\/p>\n

Thompson and Lyndon Hopkins’ conversion accounted for Murgon’s points.<\/p>\n

After the break, Murgon again was first to score (Danny Edwards try, Lehman Brunjes goal) but the rest of the half was all Red Ants.<\/p>\n

Scott Evans (2), Nathan Bowering, Marcus Jensen and Zac Walthall stacked on the tries, while Scott Evans had three conversions.<\/p>\n

At 46-12, the game was called off with less than a minute left when a player was injured.<\/p>\n
