South Burnett vets are getting ready for three months of desexing … and all at a discount price.<\/p>\n

This year, seven local veterinary surgeries are taking part in the RSPCA’s “Operation Wanted”, which started on Monday, June 1 and will run until Monday, August 31.<\/p>\n

“Operation Wanted” is a statewide campaign designed to encourage pet owners to desex their pets to help reduce the number of unwanted animals in the community.<\/p>\n

The RSPCA hopes 30,000 extra animals will be desexed in Queensland during the promotion, which will save millions of animals’ lives down the line.<\/p>\n

Nearly 45,000 animals come into RSPCA shelters every year and the vast majority of these have not been desexed.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got to get the message out there,” RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty said.<\/p>\n

“Plus, of course, the reason we have such a massive feral cat and wild dog population is because people are not desexing their pets.”<\/p>\n

Today local vets gathered at the RSPCA shelter in Kingaroy to officially launch “Operation Wanted” in the South Burnett.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They also welcomed this year’s local Operation Wanted ambassador, Chris “Corky” Corcoran from CROW-FM.<\/p>\n

Corky is a passionate pet owner and is often seen out and about with his much-loved pug Lily.<\/p>\n

“All pets deserve to be well-treated and loved,” Corky said.<\/p>\n

“I believe desexing pets is the right thing to do, so I’m very pleased to be helping the RSPCA get the message out this year.”<\/p>\n

During the promotion, participating vets will be reducing their regular desexing fees by at least 20 per cent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Operation Wanted also has some bonus prizes on offer as an added incentive.<\/p>\n

Two Harley Davidson motorcycles can be won, and there are also two $500 World for Pets gift vouchers up for grabs.<\/p>\n

Mr Beatty said the desexing program was trialled in nine shires last year – including the South Burnett – and more than 6000 extra animals were desexed.<\/p>\n
