Many of the South Burnett’s most used community facilities – like our visitor information centres, art galleries, museums and libraries – are run by volunteers.<\/p>\n

And every year during National Volunteers Week, the South Burnett Regional Council gathers them all together for a day of fun to thank them for their selfless community service.<\/p>\n

This year, 85 volunteers gathered at Christiene and Arthur Nettelfield’s property “The Gums”, near Gordonbrook Dam, for a free buffet lunch in a giant tent.<\/p>\n

They were joined by South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann and councillors Barry Green, Ros Heit, Kathy Duff and Damien Tessmann, along with several Council staff who were overseeing the day.<\/p>\n

After lunch, Volunteer Service Awards were handed out to all the volunteers who have worked more than five years at the Council-owned facilities.<\/p>\n

Joyce Nicholls and Harold Adlem, who regularly volunteer at the Kingaroy Information, Art and Heritage Precinct, led the field.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They were both presented with 30-Year Service Awards for the half a lifetime they’ve each put into welcoming visitors to Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

There were also a number of 5 Year, 10 Year and 15 Year awards handed out to other volunteers who serve at the Blackbutt, Nanango, Wondai and Murgon Visitor Information Centres or other Council-owned facilities in those towns.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, 13 volunteers also walked away with prizes from lucky door raffles that were sponsored by South Burnett tourism operators.<\/p>\n

National Volunteers Week was celebrated throughout Australia on May 11-17 this year.<\/p>\n
