{"id":108840,"date":"2015-05-27T21:12:06","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T11:12:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=108840"},"modified":"2020-11-12T15:47:18","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T05:47:18","slug":"extra-training-at-hospitals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2015\/05\/27\/extra-training-at-hospitals\/","title":{"rendered":"Extra Training At Hospitals"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_108842\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108842\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527training1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-108842\" title=\"20150527 Emergency training\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527training1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527training1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527training1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-108842\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Emergency Medicine Education and Training included hands-on simulation training at each hospital (Photo: DDDHS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>May 27, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A training team recently visited Murgon, Cherbourg and Kingaroy hospitals to provide training for staff working in Emergency departments.<\/p>\n<p>Toowoomba Hospital Emergency Senior Staff Specialist Dr Sheree Conroy said the 12-month Emergency Medicine Education and Training (EMET) project was designed to support rural staff and provide opportunities to access training using funding from the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>She said the aims included:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Building on relationships and improving two-way communication;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Delivering quality training to improve clinical and non-technical skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Enhancing the clinical care and transfer processes for patients coming from rural hospitals; and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing the understanding of Toowoomba Hospital\u2019s capacity and services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr Conroy said the program had been delivered by Toowoomba Hospital-based Emergency Department consultants who travelled to a series of Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service hospitals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Participants included doctors, nurses, medical and nursing students, and paramedics.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt each location we commenced with a walk-through of the emergency area to get a feel for the facility, followed by a look at basic and advanced life support strategies, and group sessions with various scenarios,\u201d Dr Conroy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe training is designed to be as practical as possible, with plenty of hands-on simulation training, refreshers on use of vital equipment such as defibrillators, case studies and group discussions on topics such as retrievals and transfers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the greatest benefits of the EMET project has been the improved two-way communication between medical staff, all of which helps contribute to improved patient outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_108841\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108841\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527training2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-108841\" title=\"20150527 Emergency training\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527training2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527training2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527training2-300x156.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-108841\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Sheree Conroy talks to staff during the Emergency Medicine Education and Training program (Photo: DDDHS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A training team has visited Murgon, Cherbourg and Kingaroy hospitals to provide training for staff working in Emergency departments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":108842,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[172,3],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
