The Kingaroy Redbacks football club has some big plans for its grounds in Oliver Bond Street, all thanks to Holden’s $5 million “Home Ground Advantage<\/a><\/strong>” grants program.<\/p>\n

Club president Thomas Carroll said the club had received $8960 under the scheme which it would use to remove the large mound on the southern corner of the grounds, install irrigation behind the clubhouse in the U9s field, and buy a line-marking machine.<\/p>\n

The funding came from the inaugural round of the “Holden Home Ground Advantage” program, which is distributing $250,000 twice a year for 10 years to grassroots sporting clubs across Australia.<\/p>\n

Redbacks grants officer – and southburnett.com.au<\/strong> football columnist – Martin Stern said the club was very excited to have been selected.<\/p>\n

“I put in the application in mid-February and then towards the end of April I received a surprise phone call from Holden in Melbourne,” he said.<\/p>\n

Club president Thomas Carroll said the cheque would be a “very useful” boost for the club this season.<\/p>\n

John Dundas Holden dealer principal Mark Huston said the “Home Ground Advantage” program was a great initiative by Holden and he was pleased to see a local club chosen to get a grant.<\/p>\n

“There is $500,000 a year available, so I encourage other clubs to apply. You’ve got to be in it to win it!” he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Kingaroy Junior Football is a great club that really does do a wonderful job in the local community. They really are deserving of these funds.”<\/p>\n

Applications for the 2nd round of funding under the Holden program open on June 1.<\/p>\n
