Private health care provider Healthscope will be sending representatives to Kingaroy on Monday to discuss the feasibility of taking over the running of the South Burnett Private Hospital.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said council had contacted a number of healthcare providers about the future of the facility.<\/p>\n

Healthscope had responded promptly and were keen to take a look.<\/p>\n

The representatives will meet with Mayor Kratzmann on Monday at 11:00am and also hope to inspect the hospital facilities.<\/p>\n

Healthscope currently runs 31 acute care hospitals, six rehab facilities and seven mental health units in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.<\/p>\n

It is the second largest private hospital provider in Australia, with 44 private hospitals and about 4400 overnight beds. It also operates a string of pathology clinics and labs, and medical centres.<\/p>\n

The Mayor said he also had a very good meeting with medical specialists from the hospital on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

“I was absolutely overwhelmed by how supportive they are,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I spoke to one of the specialists and he said his numbers were actually going up.”<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann said the specialists had also pointed out that the State Government would now have to pick up the travelling costs of their patients to Brisbane or Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

The mayor is meeting with Health Minister Cameron Dick on Thursday afternoon to discuss potential hiccups surrounding the issuing of a new operating licence once Pulse Health leaves.<\/p>\n

He said he also hoped to meet with hospital staff soon.<\/p>\n
