Engineers from throughout south-west Queensland have been meeting in Kingaroy for the past two days to network, swap ideas and speak to suppliers.<\/p>\n

The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia holds four branch conferences a year as well as an annual State Conference.<\/p>\n

The job of hosting the branch conferences rotates around the branch area; the last time the South Burnett Regional Council hosted one was in 2011.<\/p>\n

This week’s event attracted 110 delegates – from councils, companies and government corporations.<\/p>\n

Council’s General Manager Infrastructure, Russell Hood, said it was an opportunity for engineers and staff from different councils to get together and share experiences,<\/p>\n

“It’s a great opportunity to catch up with peers,” Russell said.<\/p>\n

“It’s also an opportunity for suppliers to showcase new products that may assist us in delivering our services.<\/p>\n

Councils represented included Western Downs, Southern Downs, Toowoomba, North Burnett and Gympie.<\/p>\n

“Sponsors provide financial assistance to make the conference happen,” Russell said.<\/p>\n

“It doesn’t cost the Council anything.<\/p>\n

“It has also been a really good opportunity to showcase our area to other areas.”<\/p>\n

About 140 people – delegates and partners – attended the conference dinner which was held on Thursday night at Cassis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
