Kingaroy State High School Year 11 student Cortney Sonter wants a career in engineering so she jumped at the chance to take a trip across to Toowoomba today for a hands-on look at the University of Southern Queensland’s programs.<\/p>\n

USQ’s Student Experience Day on Thursday attracted more than 400 students keen to sample uni life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really enjoyed the mechanical and electrical engineering talk. We got to build little motors and run them \u2013 it was really cool,\u201d Cortney said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was interesting to see how everything worked.\u201d<\/p>\n

Year 11 and 12 students from across the region spent the day on campus, chatting with current students and attending various interactive sessions.<\/p>\n

Cortney\u2019s classmate James Christensen is also considering engineering as a post-school study choice. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure, I\u2019m still thinking about it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t really have an idea of what university was like. I\u2019ve enjoyed today and the staff seemed really helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vice-Chancellor Prof Jan Thomas said moving from high school to university was a big step and events such as the Student Experience Day helped future students get answers to important questions.<\/p>\n

Students from 21 southern Queensland schools took part including Kingaroy SHS and Nanango SHS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
