Small businesses like RBM Industrial Bags who employ 5-15 people are the backbone of this nation and real measures such as lowering the company tax rate by 1.5 per cent will directly assist our business and keep people employed,\u201d\u00a0Ms Stallwood said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur business will also directly benefit from the Accelerated Depreciation changes, helping us to expand and create further job security for our employees into the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is important, as it ensures a prosperous business for us, a prosperous region for the South Burnett and a prosperous Australian society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody wins in the end,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Frecklington said the Federal Budget also contained record investment in health and education plus commitments to key regional road infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunding for several key road infrastructure projects will be of great benefit to our region, helping improve freight movement and encouraging people to visit our region on drive holidays,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>These projects included:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bruce Highway:<\/strong> up to $6.7 billion with $500 million provided in 2015-16<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Toowoomba Second Range Crossing:<\/strong> Up to $1.285 billion with $316.65 million provided in 2015-16<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Warrego Highway:<\/strong> $508 million with $101.5 million provided in 2015-16<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_50586\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50586\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/brucescott.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-50586\" title=\"Bruce Scott\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/brucescott.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/brucescott.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/brucescott-176x300.jpg 176w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-50586\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott (LNP &#8211; Federal) said Regional Australia was at the heart of the Federal Budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Federal Budget is an infrastructure investment in the Maranoa to unlock our economic capacity and make this electorate an even better place to live and do business,\u201d Mr Scott said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Maranoa, this investment will create jobs and growth with funding to upgrade the Warrego and New England highways, start work on the Inland Rail, target dangerous section of roads and allocating funding to local governments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Scott said Australia\u2019s beating heart was its farmers and small business and the Federal Government committed to growing these sectors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFarmers will be able to write-off the accelerated depreciation of water assets, fodder storage and fencing from July 1 next year. This is in addition to the $333 million drought support package announced at the weekend,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSmall business will also receive a 5 per cent tax cut and will be able to claim an instant tax deduction for any work-related purchase up to $20,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Scott said there was a number of programs guaranteed funding within the Maranoa including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Melbourne\u2013Brisbane Inland Rail Preconstruction Works<\/strong> &#8211; More than $100 million as part of the $300 million Federal contribution to significantly improve freight movements \u2013 including agriculture and coal \u2013 within Maranoa including the South Burnett, Southern Downs, Western Downs and Surat Basin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stronger Communities Program<\/strong>: $150,000 per year, for two years, to fund small capital projects in the Maranoa electorate to deliver social and economic benefits to local communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>National Stronger Regions Fund<\/strong>: This fund will deliver $1 billion over five years to promote economic development through capital infrastructure projects in regional Australia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Regional Development Australia<\/strong>: Funding of $3,860,085 will be provided to the 12 RDA committees in Queensland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">* * *<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_41380\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-41380\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ken-odowd-200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-41380\" title=\"Ken O'Dowd\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ken-odowd-200.jpg\" alt=\"Ken O'Dowd\" width=\"200\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ken-odowd-200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ken-odowd-200-171x300.jpg 171w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-41380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Member for Flynn Ken O&#8217;Dowd<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Member for Flynn Ken O\u2019Dowd (LNP &#8211; Federal) welcomed the Budget boost to communities hit by the drought, taking the total value of measures available in this year\u2019s Budget to more than $400 million.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrought is part of the landscape in Flynn and whilst some areas continue to battle severe conditions, as a nation we must better prepare for drought in the long term,\u201d Mr O\u2019Dowd said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe accelerated depreciation measures as well as the immediate response package announced at the weekend by the Prime Minister are vital and welcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a practical package that funds shovel ready projects, helps with feral animals, expands community support, and provides more financial counsellors and further drought concessional loans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDroughts don\u2019t last forever \u2013 so we need to keep as many people in jobs and families on properties while it continues.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr O\u2019Dowd said the $70 million in depreciation measures was in addition to other measures already announced as part of the Budget:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$35 million for shovel-ready, local infrastructure and employment projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$25 million to manage pest animals and weeds in drought-affected areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$20 million to expand existing social and community support programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$1.8 million for additional rural financial counsellors in drought-affected areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$250 million in 2015\u201316 to continue access to existing drought specific concessional loans schemes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_104794\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-104794\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/billbyrne1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-104794\" title=\"Bill Byrne\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/billbyrne1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/billbyrne1.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/billbyrne1-184x300.jpg 184w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-104794\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Agriculture Minister Bill Byrne<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>State Agriculture Minister Bill Byrne (ALP) was less enthusiastic about the Federal Budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the past weeks we\u2019ve heard plenty of spin and very little substance,\u201d Mr Byrne said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, the Federal budget hasn\u2019t laid out a plan for Australian agriculture \u2013 if anything, it has set the scene for a messy fight between the States for basic funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQueensland farmers wanted some solid answers last night and were left wanting.
