Eligible Cherbourg residents have a second chance to “tackle the flu before it tackles you” when the Darling Downs Public Health Unit visits the town again on Thursday (May 14).<\/p>\n

A clinic was held in Cherbourg at the end of April but due to the high demand, it was decided to stage another event.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur first clinic in Cherbourg was a great success, with 150 eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders receiving their free flu vaccine,\u201d DDPHU Director Dr Penny Hutchinson said.<\/p>\n

The Tackle Flu Before It Tackles You public health program is aimed at protecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, aged 15 years and over, from the complications of influenza\u00a0 by providing them with a free influenza vaccine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If eligible people receive their vaccination during the clinics, they receive a free 2015 \u201cTackle Flu\u201d shirt designed by Aboriginal artist Michael McGuane of Roma.<\/p>\n

The second chance Tackle Flu clinic will be held at the Community Health building, Cherbourg Health Service, on Thursday from 9:30am to noon.<\/p>\n

The health team will also set up at Murgon State High School to vaccinate eligible students, staff and community members from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.<\/p>\n

So far, the DDPHU team has vaccinated more than 1000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across the Darling Downs, South Burnett and South West as a part of the Tackle Flu program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
