Sixty-one apprentices and six trainees began their careers recently with Ergon Energy throughout Queensland.<\/p>\n

They will based at 30 depots from Thursday Island to Quilpie.<\/p>\n

Included is 2014 Kingaroy State High School graduate Jack McBlane, who will be based at the Kingaroy depot.<\/p>\n

Fraser Burnett Customer Delivery Manager Nick Grant said this year\u2019s intake continued Ergon Energy\u2019s commitment to training the workforce of tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis apprenticeship intake demonstrates we are committed to retaining the front-line staff we need now and into the future to deliver a safe, reliable and affordable electricity supply to customers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

There were more than 3000 applicants for the openings.<\/p>\n

The apprentices come from diverse backgrounds, including seven indigenous applicants, 11 women, mature-age candidates as well as school-leavers.<\/p>\n

They will train as communications technicians, distribution linespeople, systems electricians and transmission linespeople.<\/p>\n

Some will also do tertiary studies for either an associate degree or advanced diploma qualification.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
