Three years ago, weaver and artist Maryann Talia Pau launched the “1 Million Stars To End Violence” project in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

This international weaving project aims to end violence by bringing people together to weave stars, which represent light, courage and hope.<\/p>\n

Maryann’s goal is to weave one million eight-pointed stars by 2018 for display in Queensland.<\/p>\n

She began the project as a personal response to the death of ABC employee Jill Meagher who was raped and murdered after setting out to walk home from a pub in Brunswick, an inner suburb of Melbourne, on September 22, 2012.<\/p>\n

Thousands of the woven stars appeared in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall as part of the G20 Cultural program, and they have also been shown at The Big Design Market in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Now the Samoan-born artist, who was raised in New Zealand, has extended her star weaving to the world, with workshops being held all over Australia to help her on the way to having one million stars.<\/p>\n

Two star-weaving workshops will be held in the South Burnett on Thursday, May 14.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first, from 9:00am to 11:00an, will be at the Graham House Community Centre in Murgon; the second, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm will be at the “Biscuit Tin”, behind Centacare Community Connections, 15 Albert Street.<\/p>\n
