The South Burnett Regional Council will hold a series of public consultation meetings next week to gather community input on the design of the Kingaroy to Murgon section of the Kingaroy-Kilkivan Rail Trail.<\/p>\n

Consultation meetings will be held at Kingaroy, Memerambi, Wooroolin, Tingoora, Wondai and Murgon on May 11-15.<\/p>\n

The Council and rail trail consultant Mike Halliburton are encouraging community members to drop in and discuss the project with them.<\/p>\n

“Communicating with individuals, community groups, adjoining landowners and other key stakeholders is an important step in realising this project,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

“This consultation is in addition to conversations members of Council have already had with a number of adjoining landholders over the last month.”<\/p>\n

The purpose of the meetings is to collect ideas from the community so a Project Plan for the trail’s construction can be developed.<\/p>\n

The meetings will include photographic material and artist impressions of elements from other successful rail trails around Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

They will also include some photos of the Kingaroy to Murgon corridor as it currently exists, together with artist\u2019s impressions of what they might look like after construction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We want to show how the rail trail might look to stimulate ideas and discussion,” Mayor Kratzmann said.<\/p>\n

“People who attend will have the opportunity to have their ideas help shape the trail’s future development.”<\/p>\n

The information that is gathered will form the basis for construction work that will enable the trail to be used by cyclists and walkers.<\/p>\n

“It will also provide detailed construction requirements and cost estimates for items such as trail surfacing, trailhead facilities, trailside furniture, road crossings and creek crossings,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We have a funding allocation for the work from the State Government that we need to stick to.”<\/p>\n
