Australian-trained international medical graduates are to join Kingaroy Hospital team as interns, Federal Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott said today.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese medical graduates will undertake Federal Government-funded internships under the 2015 Commonwealth Medical Internship (CMI) initiative,\u201d Mr Scott said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany regional and rural communities in my electorate rely on doctors from overseas to support their local health care needs so this is a great announcement for the South Burnett.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Federal Government has committed $40 million over four years to support the placement of up to 100 extra medical interns each year through the CMI initiative.<\/p>\n

Mr Scott said the interns were required to spend 48 weeks in a regional, rural or remote location.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy giving medical graduates an opportunity to live and work in Kingaroy, this will enhance and broaden their experience as doctors,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPractising medicine in a regional community offers interns a different experience to that of capital cities and will offer them a rewarding experience by being included in the South Burnett community.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
