{"id":105387,"date":"2015-05-03T20:50:56","date_gmt":"2015-05-03T10:50:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=105387"},"modified":"2020-12-21T12:15:31","modified_gmt":"2020-12-21T02:15:31","slug":"singles-championships-produce-top-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2015\/05\/03\/singles-championships-produce-top-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Singles Championships Produce Top Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_105395\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-105395\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150503-bowls1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-105395\" title=\"20150503 Bowls\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150503-bowls1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150503-bowls1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150503-bowls1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-105395\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Seline Druery, from Mundubbera. was the winner of the &#8220;B&#8221; grade BDLBA Ladies Singles Championships played at Nanango last week; the final was a nail-biter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/bowls-news2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-97005\" title=\"bowls-news2\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/bowls-news2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/bowls-news2.jpg 210w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/bowls-news2-175x300.jpg 175w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/a><strong>May 3, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>by Jim Bond<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A highlight of last week&#8217;s bowls line-up was the Burnett Ladies Singles championships, which were held at Nanango. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Monday and Tuesday were devoted to playing this calendar event right through, with the cream of the Burnett&#8217;s lady bowlers getting together to fight out the &#8220;A&#8221; and &#8220;B&#8221; singles.<\/p>\n<p>The competitions were played over three games, with the winner the first to 21 points.<\/p>\n<p>The semi-finalists were then determined by the number of games won and the combined margins.<\/p>\n<p>After the first day&#8217;s play, the &#8220;A&#8221; singles semi-finalists were Helene Johnson, Charmaine MacLeod, Linda Cecil and Diane Reed.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;B&#8221; singles semi-finalists were Amy Bellert, Maree Millard, Lindy Clutterbuck and Seline Druery.<\/p>\n<p>The semi-finals were played on Tuesday with Charmaine MacLeod and Helene Johnson being successful in &#8220;A&#8221; grade, while Amy Bellert and Seline Druery were successful in &#8220;B&#8221; grade.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;A&#8221; grade final was played at a keen pace and Johnson jumped to a big lead before MacLeod fought back to get the score to 14 to 8.<\/p>\n<p>However Johnson maintained the pressure and eventually ran out the winner by 25 to 17.<\/p>\n<p>In the &#8220;B&#8221; final, Druery started at a crackerjack pace and led 11 to 2 early. But 15 year old Bellert with a never say die attitude continued to work hard and got the score back to 19-17.<\/p>\n<p>The game got even closer at one stage, with the score 24-all.<\/p>\n<p>Needing only one point, Druery then placed a superb draw bowl to get the winning shot, coming out the victor by a very narrow 25-24.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Semi-Final &#8220;A&#8221;:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Charmaine MacLeod def.
