The Blackbutt War Memorial on the D’Aguilar Highway was the focal point of the town’s Anzac Day commemorations this year<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

May 3, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n

Like many other South Burnett towns, Blackbutt held two commemorations on Anzac Day.<\/p>\n

The first – a Dawn Service – got underway at the Coulson Street War Memorial at 4:27am and entailed temporarily blocking the D’Aguilar Highway.<\/p>\n

The service attracted an above-average crowd because of the centenary of the Gallipoli landings.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, many of the participants went back for a traditional Gunfire Breakfast at the RSL’s premises in Douglas Street.<\/p>\n

Later in the morning, a procession formed outside the RSL and proceeded along Coulson Street to the War Memorial for a Commemoration Service, which required the highway to be blocked a second time for a short period.<\/p>\n

This year’s parade was led by serving members of all three arms of the armed forces and enlivened by several military vehicles and members of the Emu Gully Field Volunteers, a military history group from Helidon, who turned out in WWI uniforms.<\/p>\n
