Ironpot author Alice Greenup<\/figcaption><\/figure>

Twelve years ago, Alice Greenup was gravely injured after she fell from a horse on her grazing property at Ironpot.<\/p>\n

She had been mustering cattle with her husband Rick when the horse suddenly reared up and bucked her off.<\/p>\n

The horse kicked Alice in the neck and chest with its back legs while she was in the air, slamming her to the ground.<\/p>\n

Her head took the brunt of the impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cSearing pain engulfed my body. I couldn\u2019t move my head \u2013 it felt like it was bolted to the earth,\u201d Alice said.<\/p>\n

Rick recalls seeing Alice hit the ground and feared the worst but was forced to leave her lying alone while he desperately rode several kilometres for help.<\/p>\n

A RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was called in to urgently airlift Alice to the Royal Brisbane and Women\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n

She had suffered horrific injuries including bleeding on the brain, a ruptured liver and broken ribs.<\/p>\n

Alice also had double vision for months.<\/p>\n

Remarkably, Alice not only survived the terrifying horse fall, but published her first book in 2013, a memoir entitled “Educating Alice”.<\/p>\n

Alice will be sharing her incredible story of survival at the ninth annual CareFlight Gala Ball in Toowoomba on Saturday, May 30.<\/p>\n
