As storms roll in across southern Queensland, the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services is again reminding residents to avoid flood waters.<\/p>\n

QFES South Western Region Assistant Commissioner Tom Dawson urged residents to exercise common sense and patience.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt only takes 30cm of moving water to sweep a car away and even less to potentially stall an engine,\u201d Mr Dawson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cChoose an alternate route if possible or wait for waters to recede, and never attempt to enter floodwater either on foot or in a vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cFloodwater can mask hidden dangers such as debris, eroded areas that are deeper than they appear, or strong currents.\u201d<\/p>\n

State Emergency Services (Regional Manager Robert Bundy said residents should also be on the look out to help travellers who may not know local areas prone to flash flooding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cResidents can assist travellers by providing local knowledge as wet weather continues across the region,\u201d Mr Bundy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTravellers who do become trapped in floodwater should call Triple Zero immediately, or ask someone nearby to call for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cLikewise, if you see someone trapped in floodwaters, immediately report the situation by calling Triple Zero. Don\u2019t enter the water if it can be avoided.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
