The former township of Wengenville was sited at the base of the Bunya Mountains<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

April 13, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n

A history book about the South Burnett’s forgotten town, Wengenville, will be launched on June 21 at the Bunya Mountains.<\/p>\n

Wengenville is a timber town that formerly existed at the foot of the mountains.<\/p>\n

It was centred around a sawmill that operated from 1922 to 1961.<\/p>\n

The town was once big enough to have its own hall, school, shops and a main street of houses.<\/p>\n

But when the mill closed, the town quickly died and the buildings were hauled away.<\/p>\n

Today all that is left is a cattle paddock, a private residence and some signs erected by South Burnett Regional Council in 2013 at a “Back To Wengenville” day.<\/p>\n

The success of this reunion led to a decision by the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association to pull together the history and photographs of the town for a book, which is being edited by Nanango historian Liz Caffery.<\/p>\n

The 120-page book will be officially launched at the association’s museum, “Cedarvale”, at Dandabah at 10:00am on June 21 by South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann.<\/p>\n

Cost is $25 (plus postage) but only 250 copies will be printed.<\/p>\n
