The South Burnett Regional Council’s Flood Restoration Program is gaining momentum with up to 10 crews deployed on repairs to roads, drainage and floodways, a Council spokesman said today. <\/p>\n

The lead contractor, Civil Mining and Construction Pty Ltd, established an office and depot in Nanango in late May and has been busy working towards the completion of repairs to 200 roads by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is pleasing to see the work completed by CMC to date,” South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said today. <\/p>\n

“Council is receiving positive feedback from the community about the quantity and quality of the work as they see the flood damaged areas repaired and made safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chief Executive Officer Mr Ken McLoughlin acknowledged the patience of residents while the State and Federal funding approvals were arranged. <\/p>\n

He also noted important economic benefits and spin-offs from the program.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe contract includes use of local suppliers of plant, equipment and materials. South Burnett concrete and gravel suppliers in particular have been kept very busy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

CMC Project Manager Jesse Brunskill said the current team includes 63 local people employed either directly by CMC or through local plant hire companies as plant operators, labourers and truck drivers.<\/p>\n

The flood restoration program will be accelerated shortly with the release of a construction contract for another 60 roads. <\/p>\n

This morning, a special meeting the SBRC awarded a $2.055 million contract for flood restoration works to Westec Civil Pty Ltd.<\/p>\n

The second major contract for the remaining 140 roads is expected to be let in late October with all works targeted for completion by June 2013.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
