{"id":101540,"date":"2015-03-31T19:55:36","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T09:55:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=101540"},"modified":"2020-08-17T16:21:26","modified_gmt":"2020-08-17T06:21:26","slug":"get-the-lowdown-on-worms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2015\/03\/31\/get-the-lowdown-on-worms\/","title":{"rendered":"Get The Lowdown On Worms"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_42122\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42122\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/kathy_duff_200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-42122\" title=\"Cr Kathy Duff\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/kathy_duff_200.jpg\" alt=\"Cr Kathy Duff\" width=\"200\" height=\"296\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-42122\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SBRC Waste Management Portfolio leader Cr Kathy Duff (Photo: SBRC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>March 31, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Burnett Regional Council is holding free community composting and worm farming workshops on Monday, April 27, and Wednesday, April 29.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The workshops will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Home composting systems \u2013 establishment and maintenance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Worm farming and worm farm assembly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Waste minimisation tips and the benefits of reducing waste to landfill<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cr Kathy Duff said about half of the waste generated by the average Australian household was organic, such as garden and food waste.<\/p>\n<p>Most of this could be diverted from landfill by composting or worm farming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComposting organic household waste is not just beneficial for the environment, but also for your own backyard,&#8221; Cr Duff said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The natural fertiliser you can make at home is high quality and will improve your soil, helping your garden and plants grow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The composting and worm farming workshops will be held at the Kingaroy Town Common Hall, in Oliver Bond Street, from 2:00pm to 4.00pm.<\/p>\n<p>Both include light refreshments as well as a compost bin or worm farm giveaway to one lucky participant.<\/p>\n<p>Registrations are essential as participant numbers are limited.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nTo book a place, contact the waste education team on (07) 3457-2400 or <a href=\"mailto:SBRCWasteEd@envirocom.com.au\">by email<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Burnett Regional Council is holding free community composting and worm farming workshops on Monday, April 27, and Wednesday, April 29.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":20678,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3],"tags":[1131],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
