Police will be keeping a close eye on South Burnett motorists over Easter … all thanks to last year’s Brisbane G20 summit.<\/p>\n

A pair of the latest Yamaha police bikes, fresh from G20 duties, are now patrolling local roads.<\/p>\n

As well as LIDAR speed guns, the units are also equipped with the latest video technology and one also has mobile radar (just like Highway Patrol cars).<\/p>\n

Senior Constable Chris Watson and Senior Constable Greg McMaster, from the Gympie Road Policing Unit, have been working hard over the past few days – as a few local motorists could attest.<\/p>\n

They’ve been concentrating on the “Fatal Five”, which are still the main causes of road crashes in Queensland:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Speeding<\/p>\n

2. Drink and drug driving<\/p>\n

3. Failure to wear a seatbelt<\/p>\n

4. Driving while fatigued<\/p>\n

5. Distraction and inattention (eg. mobile phones, complex sound systems, on-board DVD players\u00a0and satellite navigation)<\/p>\n

The motorbike technology may have changed over the years, but the job of the police riders is still the same: to save lives by encouraging motorists to drive safely.<\/p>\n
