They contain some niacin, iron, folic acid and phosphorus too.<\/p>\n<p>These little red beauties are a versatile ingredient for toppings, in desserts, cakes and cocktails.<\/p>\n<p>When selecting strawberries, look for a clean, bright red colour. The flesh should not look whitish, bruised, blemished, crushed or moist. The green caps on top should be firmly attached.<\/p>\n<p>To store, keep strawberries cold and humid in the fridge and only keep for a short time.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Strawberry Crumble To Die For<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/strawberries-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/strawberries-2.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"strawberries-2\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-101260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/strawberries-2.png 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/strawberries-2-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/strawberries-2-50x50.png 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40g butter\n<li>180g caster sugar\n<li>1\/2 lemon (juiced)\n<li>100ml white wine\n<li>1 kg strawberry (hulled and halved)\n<li>1 cinnamon quill\n<li>1 tsp vanilla essence\n<li>125g  butter\n<li>125g brown sugar\n<li>65g almond meal\n<li>65g rolled oats\n<li>125g plain flour\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Place the butter, sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan and cook until the sugar starts to caramelise\n<li>Add the wine to the saucepan\n<li>Add the strawberries, cinnamon quill and vanilla essence to the saucepan; simmer the strawberries until three-quarters cooked (about 5 minutes)\n<li>Remove from the heat, spoon into an ovenproof dish and allow to cool slightly\n<li>To make topping, place the butter, sugar, almond meal, rolled oats and flour in a bowl and rub together until the mixture forms crumbly consistency\n<li>Sprinkle the crumble topping over the strawberry filling and bake at 190oC until the top is golden\n<li>Serve with hot custard or ice-cream\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/ford-on-food\/\">Read more Ford On Food columns<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Although strawberries appear to be at their best and cheapest in summer, they are available all year round.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":101260,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[595],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
