South Burnett residents who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander – and have an interest in community health – have been encouraged to contact Nurunderi TAFE at Cherbourg to see if they\u2019re eligible for fully-funded training to become a Primary Health Care Worker.<\/p>\n

A Certificate III in ATSI Primary Health Care qualification will be delivered via block training throughout the year at Nurunderi, with all training fees and learning resources costs paid for by the Department of Education and Training.<\/p>\n

Kashaunica Stanley, 19, was one of the first students to enrol in the program and has big plans for where the qualification will take her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it’s a good stepping stone to becoming a nurse and midwife, and also for understanding how to better the health and well-being of family, friends and my community,\u201d Ms Stanley said.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Community Health manager Christine Stewart said that having the course offered in Cherbourg was a great advantage for the community.<\/p>\n

She encouraged as many young people as possible to enrol.<\/p>\n

Eligible students who live outside of Cherbourg are encouraged to contact ABSTUDY which may be able to assist with associated costs to complete the qualification, such as travel and accommodation.<\/p>\n

There are limited fully-funded positions available.<\/p>\n
