This time last year Christie Turner was a freshly minted constable straight from six months training at the Oxley Police Academy.<\/p>\n

At the time, it would be fair to say she was looking a bit nervous but was definitely excited about her 12-month placement at Kingaroy under the careful watch of\u00a0 older and more experienced mentors.<\/p>\n

Now, after 12 months working the streets of Kingaroy, Constable Turner is beaming.<\/p>\n

She has received her “confirmation of appointment” and has started climbing the career ladder.<\/p>\n

Her first transfer is to Murgon Station where she will spend the next two years.<\/p>\n

And she’s looking forward to the experience.<\/p>\n

“I have learned a lot while in Kingaroy,” she said. “I have had good mentors.”<\/p>\n

But was the job what she expected when she left Oxley?<\/p>\n

“Some things are what I expected; other things I thought I would never do,” she admitted.<\/p>\n

Constable Turner and her colleagues have a busy time coming up: the Easter Long Weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kingaroy Officer-in-Charge Senior Sergeant Duane Frank said Easter was one of the busiest times of the year on the roads and, unfortunately, one of the times when many crashes occurred.<\/p>\n

“If you plan to be travelling long distances, plan your trip,” he said. “Plan to have sufficient rest breaks. Expect your trip to take longer simply due to the traffic on the roads.<\/p>\n

“Don’t undertake unsafe overtaking manoeuvres or follow too closely to other vehicles.<\/p>\n

“And remember the Fatal Five, particularly distraction and inattention, and make sure any children in the car are appropriately restrained.<\/p>\n

“Police will be out in force.”<\/p>\n
