Goomeri’s 75th Show – and the Show Society’s 90th birthday – was celebrated in style on Saturday.<\/p>\n

After two years of of “hiccups and disasters” – in the words of Show Society president Amanda McArthur – the Goomeri Show went off with barely a hitch on Saturday.<\/p>\n

And at the end of the day the Show Society members could celebrate the fact that their new pavilion\u00a0 was officially opened and had won universal praise.<\/p>\n

Local Goomeri businesswoman, Show Society stalwart and 2010 Gympie Region Citizen of the Year Pam Brunjes officially opened the new pavilion.<\/p>\n

“We have now got a lovely new building that we are all very proud of,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I am looking forward to working in this new building and never having to clean up that old one again.”<\/p>\n

The old show pavilion – no one really knows when it was built – was badly damaged in a storm and then finished off by the floods two years ago.<\/p>\n

Member for Callide Jeff Seeney, who officially opened the Show, said the new pavilion was a good result for the Show Society “even though it was a painful experience”.<\/p>\n

One of the oldest life members of the Goomeri Show Society, Gwen Jenkinson, was called on to cut the Society’s 90th birthday cake. It was fitting as Mrs Jenkinson, from Goomeri, is also 90.<\/p>\n
