The pre-season action for South Burnett rugby league teams continued on Saturday with visiting teams from Caloundra and Caboolture giving local players a major work-out in the heat.<\/p>\n

At Kingaroy, Caloundra was triumphant in all three games but they didn’t always have it their own way.<\/p>\n

In the first A Grade game, Caloundra took off to an unbeatable lead in the first quarter but the Murgon Mustangs did well to hold them back from a cricket score.<\/p>\n

Jameel Sullivan demonstrated his class by scoring two tries.<\/p>\n

In the second A Grade game, played under lights, Kingaroy put its first points on the board via Mick Smallwood with six minutes to go in the first half. At halftime, the Sharks – who were last year’s Sunshine Coast A Grade and Reserve Grade premiers – led 20-6.<\/p>\n

With the score at 40-6, Shane Cliff managed to barge through the Sharks’ defence to ground the ball over the line. Mitch Crossley’s conversion was again on target, and the score was 40-12.<\/p>\n

Caloundra extended its lead to 50-12, but the Red Ants didn’t give up and with less than a minute on the clock, Mick Smallwood got over the line again, only to be held up.<\/p>\n

The Red Ants were starved of possession all night but like the earlier Murgon game, they will benefit from the “friendly workout” ahead of the main season.<\/p>\n

At Nanango, the U18s Stags side was triumphant over the visitors, defeating Caboolture 6-0.<\/p>\n
