Are you under 18 and Nanango’s answer to Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey or Nigella Lawson?<\/p>\n

For the third year running, Nanango\u2019s Copper Country Restaurant will be sponsoring a “Junior Chef Award” at this year\u2019s Nanango Show.<\/p>\n

Junior chefs (ie aged under 18) are being invited to create an innovative sweet or savory tart, flan or quiche.<\/p>\n

They must supply the recipe – and the finished tart, flan or quiche – for judging at the show.<\/p>\n

Kerri Southee, from Copper Country, said the restaurant was proud to sponsor a culinary competition dedicated to the development of budding local junior chefs.<\/p>\n

“Competing is about gaining experience, going up against your peers and seeing what other junior chefs are creating,” she said.<\/p>\n

“This will have a very positive impact on their skills as a junior chef, and we hope all of the competitors will increase their working knowledge and their gastronomic imagination.”<\/p>\n

She said the restaurant is hoping to encourage more junior chefs, and if there are enough primary school age children competing there’ll be two categories this year – Junior Junior and Senior Junior<\/p>\n

There is $100 in prize money and a trophy on offer for 1st place, along with cash prizes for 2nd and 3rd.<\/p>\n

As well, the winning recipe will be featured on the Copper Country Restaurant’s menu with the winner being acknowledged as the creator.<\/p>\n

“There were a number of exceptional entries over the last two years and we hope this year, with the option to be able to create sweet or savory, this will open up more options for Junior Chefs to get creative,” Kerri said.<\/p>\n

“So get your aprons and your thinking caps on and get creative!”<\/p>\n

Entries will close at 8:00am on Friday, April 10 and judging will occur at 9:00am.<\/p>\n
