The inaugural Linville Heritage Festival is commemorating the arrival of the first train at Linville Station on November 21, 1910

November 19, 2020

This weekend is going to be huge in the little town of Linville with the inaugural Heritage Festival kicking off on Friday night.

The event – which coincides with the 110th anniversary of the opening of the former Linville Railway Station – is being promoted by the Linville Progress Association.

It features activities in Linville as well as the nearby town of Moore.

There’s music, food, a cooking competition, photographic displays and even art classes (see the Full Program, below)

A “Paint and Sip” watercolour art class will be held on the balcony of the Linville Hotel from 3:30pm on Saturday. Canvas and brushes will be supplied but would-be artists must book ahead. Phone 0424-551-699.

A highlight of the weekend will be the Camerata Chamber Orchestra performance on Sunday morning from 9:00am.

This is a ticketed event with a maximum of 80 people allowed. There are still tickets available, visit the Trybooking website

The idea for the Heritage Festival was conceived by Linville Hotel owners Leah and Paul Squire and is being supported by the Progress Association and local businesses.

On Friday night, a history of Linville will be shared in an outdoor slideshow on a big screen erected near the pub.

The history theme continues across the weekend with a photographic retrospective of the Linville Picnic Races at the Old Church Gallery in Moore.

Unfortunately, the old Linville Railway Station building is still being refurbished and won’t be available for this year’s event but the Progress Association is keen to have it ready as a History Museum in time for next year’s festival.

As well as the old, Linville will also be celebrating the new this weekend.

Stage 1 of the new Linville Community Garden, developed near the Linville Hall with the aid of community and business donations, will be officially opened at 2:30pm on Saturday.
