Murgon Showgrounds will soon be sporting a new canteen to service the lower end of the grounds, thanks to a Community Grants program.

Murgon Show Society applied for the $5000 grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) which was administering the grant on behalf of Nutrien Ag Solutions.

Show Society president Alan Trim dropped into Nutrien Ag Solutions’ store in Macalister Street, Murgon, on Thursday to thank the company for their support.

He said the funding would allow the Society to put down a concrete slab for the 10m x 5m building, which will be completed with a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

Alan said the new canteen would be like the popular Cattlemen’s Bar but would be closer to where the equestrian events were now held.

It would provide a new income stream for the Show Society.

Alan has invited Nutrien Ag Solutions’ Murgon store manager Damien Sippel to come up with a name for the building.

This will be unveiled at the next Murgon Show.

Round 1 of the FRRR / Nutrien Ag Solutions partnership delivered 57 small grants for projects across Australia.

The funding was directed at projects that will create long-term positive outcomes to benefit and strengthen local communities.

FRRR CEO Natalie Egleton said it had been one of the most popular programs that FRRR has run in recent years, thanks to its flexibility.

Damien said Nutrien was proud to support the local community.

“We are delighted to be able to fund this important community project and help relieve the pressure that many groups are under,” he said.
