Patrick Gentry escapes a flying Murgon tackle to open the scoring for Nanango

June 25, 2021

Murgon and Nanango played an exciting 22-all draw in their A Grade rugby league game played on a bitterly cold night at Nanango last Saturday.

Both teams notched up two tries in the first half.

Murgon was just a nose ahead at the break, 12-8, when Luke Dudgeon scored after the half-time siren sounded.

Nanango came out strongly in the second, with Patrick McCallum levelling the scores at 12-all, and then going over again just four minutes later to put Nanango in the lead.

Murgon and Nanango then swapped tries.

With 10 minutes to go, the crowd was roaring as the home side was ahead 22-16.

But then a daring across-field kick and quick passing set up Arthur Saltner to score for the Mustangs.

Daron Saltner-Bligh added the extras, and the scores were again locked, 22-all.

With less than a minute to go, Murgon tried to break the deadlock, but their field goal attempt was waved away.

Nanango try scorers were Patrick Gentry (2), Patrick McCallum (2) and Blake Harvey. Rhyse Simpson kicked one goal.

Murgon try scorers were Arthur Saltner (2), Elwyn Fewquandie and Luke Dudgeon. Daron Saltner-Bligh kicked three goals.
