The fire continues to travel from Kilcoy-Murgon Road in a north-easterly direction towards the southern side of the township of Jimna.

The fire has slowed however residents in the township of Jimna should remain prepared to leave.

QFES crews will continue to work to contain the fire overnight, but firefighters may not be able to protect every property.

The fire is travelling from Kilcoy-Murgon Road in a north-easterly direction towards the southern side of the township of Jimna.

The fire has slowed however residents in the township of Jimna should remain prepared to leave.

QFES crews will continue to work to contain the fire overnight, but firefighters may not be able to protect every property.

You should not expect a firefighter at your door, however police are door-knocking in the area.

People choosing to self-evacuate should leave via Kilcoy-Murgon Road to get to Kilcoy.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

At 4:00pm, an unpredictable fire is travelling from Kilcoy-Murgon Road in a north-easterly direction towards the southern side of the township of Jimna.

Fire conditions are erratic.

Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door, however police are door knocking in the area.

People choosing to leave should head north-west via School Road to Kilcoy-Murgon Road to get to Kilcoy. South via Bellbird Road is closed.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

A slow-moving bushfire is burning to the north-west of the township of Jimna.

Crews are actively monitoring containment lines.

Residents have been allowed to return to their properties, however access is still restricted to residents only.

Members of the community with respiratory issues have been asked not to return as people in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Properties are not under direct threat at this time.

On Saturday . . .

Police assisted with evacuations from the Jimna area on Friday afternoon as a bushfire headed towards the town.

QFES warned residents that if they were not in the area, they should not return, as conditions were too dangerous.

Police have reminded motorists to limit unnecessary travel and keep roads clear for emergency services in bushfire-affected areas.

“Fires by their very nature are unpredictable and motorists travelling through active bushfire areas could easily find themselves in quickly changing and dangerous situations,” a QPS spokesperson said.

“If you live near a active bushfire area please limit all non-essential travel and re-think your need to be on the roads.

“Driving conditions can be dangerous due to hazards such as burnt out trees over road ways, fallen power lines, smoke and dust. Please remain vigilant.

“Emergency services are working together to return affected residents to their homes however this can only occur when the risk of fire has been mitigated.”

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has advised there is a bushfire approaching Jimna from the west, and conditions are getting worse.

Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a plan, your safest option is to leave now if it is clear to do so. If you are not in the area, do not return, as conditions are too dangerous.

At 3:25pm, a fast-moving fire was travelling towards Peach Trees Camping Area and the town of Jimna.

The fire is approaching from the west.

It is expected to impact the Jimna township within the hour. The fire could have a significant impact on the community.

What You Should Do

  • Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service website for regular updates.
  • If you have a bushfire survival plan, finalise it now so you are ready to follow it.
  • If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, or if your plan is to leave, identify where you will go if you leave the area.
  • Advise family and friends of your plan.
  • Close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure.
  • If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep your medication close by.
  • Drive with caution in low visibility conditions.
  • Contact your neighbours to see if they need help preparing for the bushfire.
  • Pack important documents and essential items (eg. passports, birth certificates, prescription medication, food and water, and protective clothing) in case you need to leave the area.
  • Put on protective clothing (eg. a long-sleeved cotton shirt, boots with thick soles).
  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
  • Bring pets inside; restrain them with a leash, a cage, or inside a secure room; and provide them with plenty of water.
  • Take action to protect your livestock.
  • Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins, and outdoor furniture away from your house.
  • Fill containers such as your bath, sinks, and buckets with water so you have access to drinking water and firefighting water.
  • Close windows and doors, sealing the gaps under doors and screens with wet towels to keep smoke out of the house.
