South Burnett vets are again taking part in RSPCA Queensland’s statewide desexing campaign, dubbed “Operation Wanted”.

More than 180 vets across Queensland have reduced their desexing fees by at least 20 per cent from June 1 for three months.

The RSPCA hopes 20,000 extra pets will be desexed because of the promotion, which will help prevent unwanted litters ending up at RSPCA centres and council facilities

“There is a massive pet over-population all over Queensland,” RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty said.

“Nearly 45,000 animals come into our care every year and the vast majority of these have not been desexed.”

Operation Wanted started as a trial in the South Burnett and a handful of other councils in 2015.

The following year it was extended statewide.
