The State Government is urging people who’ve purchased new energy efficient air conditioners, washing machines or refrigerators to apply for a cash rebate.

Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said on Wednesday that nearly $3 million worth of rebates have already been claimed from a $20 million fund set aside for the scheme.

The rebates apply to new, eligible four-star or higher appliances purchased from January 1, 2018.

The scheme offers a $200 rebate for washing machines; $250 for fridges; and $300 for air conditioners.

Queenslanders who have already bought new energy-efficient fridges, air-conditioners or washing machines since January 1, and who have registered for the rebate, have until March 20 to apply.

People who purchased an eligible appliance since January 19 or are considering a new purchase have 30 days from the date of purchase to apply.

Statewide, 11,500 households are receiving rebates for more than 4400 energy efficient air conditioners, almost 3000 fridges and more than 4200 washing machines.

To apply for the rebate:

  • Check if the appliance you are considering buying is eligible for the rebate
  • Scan or upload a photo of your appliance’s tax invoice or receipt and submit it with your completed form
  • Provide your National Metering Identifier number which you’ll find on your electricity account, and your bank account details
