Marian Mudra at the Kumbia QCWA’s 90th birthday celebrations in 2014

Well-known Ellesmere resident – and former QCWA State President – Marian Mudra OAM died on February 14 after complications from recent surgery.

The sad news was passed on to QCWA members by State Secretary Mandie Quince on Friday.

Marian was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday honours for her service to the community, particularly through the Country Women’s Association.

She joined the QCWA in Kumbia in 1983 after being introduced to the association by then-Kumbia resident and QCWA member, the late Anne Beil.

In 2005, Marian was named the QCWA Country Woman of the Year.

She took on many positions at different levels in the organisation, serving as QCWA Vice-President (2006-08) and then State President (2008-11).

Marian also held a range of executive positions at local and regional levels, including President of the Kumbia QCWA, Secretary and Press Secretary, and Chair of the Regional Organising Committee.

As well as her QCWA service, Marian was a founding member and secretary/treasurer of the Ellesmere Rural Fire Brigade.

She also served as secretary of the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association, secretary of the Nanango Progress Association, the Stuart Valley School Bus Committee and the Nanango Tourism and Development Association.

Over the years she was also a member of the South Burnett Tourism Association, Nanango Chamber of Commerce, Kingaroy Local Ambulance Committee, Nanango and District Art and Craft Association, Kumbia Quilters, Kumbia Historical Society, Kumbia State School P&C and a volunteer at the Nanango Visitor Information Centre.

Marian’s funeral will be held on Friday, March 2, at 11:30am at Traditional Funerals, 636 Morayfield Road, Burpengary.

She is survived by her husband Helmut, son Paul and daughter Helene.
