South Burnett residents have been invited to attend the State Funeral for Lady Bjelke-Petersen at Kingaroy Town Hall from 1:00pm on Thursday.

There will be reserved seating in the Town Hall for Federal, State and local dignitaries, immediate family members and close family friends.

All other seating will be in order of arrival until the venue reaches capacity.

Doors will open at 11:45am and mourners must be seated by 12:15pm. Ushers will be on hand to assist with seating.

A South Burnett Regional Council spokesperson advised residents to bring a hat and water as there would be limited shade available.

After the service, the cortege will travel through the centre of Kingaroy before returning to Virgo Funerals.

Afternoon tea will be available for mourners after the service at the Uniting Church Hall and St John’s Lutheran Church Hall.

A private family interment will occur at Bethany at a later time.

Parking

Sections of the Kingaroy CBD will be closed to allow vehicle access between 6:00am and 5:00pm on Thursday.

Road closures:

  • Glendon Street (between Haly and Alford streets)
  • Laneway between Council office and Commercial Hotel
  • Laneway next to Library (behind shops in Alford Street)

Car Park closures:

  • Council staff car park area at rear of Council office
  • Glendon Street car park

Members of the public travelling to the funeral by car will be able to park at the Kingaroy Showgrounds from 11:00am.

Shuttle buses will run from the Showgrounds to Alford Street (opposite Kingaroy Shoppingworld) from 11:00am to 12:45pm with return shuttles running from 2:30pm.

“There will be many people in town for this very special day,” the Council spokesperson said.

“We suggest where possible that you leave your car away from the Kingaroy CBD to assist with traffic movements and parking on the day.

Council Closures

The Council Customer Service Centre in Kingaroy and the T.J. O’Neill Memorial Library will be closed on Thursday due to the State Funeral.

However, Council staff will be available to answer telephone inquiries and respond to emergencies. Calls should be directed to (07) 4189-9100.

Businesses are advised that commercial and domestic bin collections will occur at 6:00am on Thursday.
