Maranoa – one of the three Federal electorates that criss-cross the South Burnett – has the least support for same-sex marriage in the country, according to a Vote Compass poll conducted by the ABC.

The poll results, published on Wednesday, show that only 42 per cent of people in the Maranoa electorate support gay marriage.

Maranoa is held by LNP Member David Littleproud.

In Flynn, another of the South Burnett electorates, there is 44 per cent support for a change to the marriage laws. Flynn is held by LNP Member Ken O’Dowd.

In Wide Bay, the third of the South Burnett seats but which also takes in a large slice of the coast, the ABC figures show a slim majority of people in favour of change: 51 per cent.

Wide Bay is held by LNP Member Llew O’Brien.

The Federal electorates with the most support for same-sex marriage are the inner-city seats of Melbourne Ports and Sydney, both at 79 per cent and both held by the ALP.

It should be noted the poll data was collected by the ABC between May and July last year in conjunction with the last Federal Election campaign, and before the current Marriage Equality debate accelerated in the public domain.
