Blackbutt, Nanango and the South Burnett (Kingaroy) show societies have received an early Christmas present from the State Government.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the show societies would share in more than $27,000 funding.

The money has been allocated through a Local Government grants program and is designed to ensure communities throughout Queensland continue to host their signature events.

“This funding is really important as our local shows provide us all with an opportunity to come together and celebrate what’s great about the area. It’s a great way to showcase what we can do, as well as provide entertainment for all of the family,” Mrs Frecklington said.

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the money was part of the State Government’s push to empower local communities and strengthen regional Queensland.

“There are more than 130 agricultural shows in Queensland and more than half of those are in areas that were savaged during this year’s floods,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“Most of the other areas are now being hit by drought, so more than ever, it’s important to prioritise what needs to be done to maintain a strong heartbeat in the bush.”
