The Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE is celebrating after winning the Best Large Training Provider of the Year category at the annual Queensland Training Awards in Brisbane last Friday.

The Queensland Training Awards are the State’s peak awards for recognising excellence in vocational education and training.

SQIT was also well represented in other award categories with students Chantal Harth, from Murgon, and Caleb Chiverton, from Dalby, nominated as finalists.

Construction teacher Murray Shelton, from Kingaroy, was also recognised for his exceptional teaching ability, being nominated for the VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year award.

Acting Institute Director Ailsa Leacy said the Best Large Training Provider award highlighted SQIT’s “commitment to delivering innovative training to address the needs of individuals, businesses and communities across Southern Queensland”.

“It is our ability to partner with industry and connect with rural and regional communities that truly sets us apart from the competition,” she said.

“This award confirms our position as a recognised and respected leader in vocational education and training with exceptional client service.”

This is the second consecutive year SQIT has been nominated as a finalist for the Large Training Provider of the Year award.

SQIT will now compete to be recognised as Australia’s top large training provider at the national awards in Perth on Friday, November 22.
