Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss has invited local volunteer groups to apply for funding from the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants program.

“This grants program supports the work of volunteers and encourages volunteering, allowing organisations to purchase equipment, making volunteers’ work easier, safer and more enjoyable,” Mr Truss said.

The Volunteer Grants Program provides grants of between $1000 to $5000 to eligible not-for-profit organisations to:

  • Purchase small equipment to help volunteers help their communities;
  • Contribute towards volunteers’ fuel costs incurred in their volunteering work, including using their cars to transport others to activities, delivering food and assisting people in need;
  • Assist with the reimbursement of transport costs for volunteers with a disability or who are unable to drive; and
  • contribute towards the costs of training courses for volunteers and/or undertaking background screening checks for volunteers.
