Cash For Containers Scheme Starts
The Queensland State Government's "Cash For Containers" scheme will start today, and most common drink containers will rise in price by 10c. These containers will be able to be redeemed for cash or a direct bank deposit at collection points in Kingaroy and Cherbourg (and hopefully at other local places in future as the scheme develops).

Arts Alive - Murgon
Murgon State High School students will be presenting Arts Alive in the Diggers Room at the Murgon Services Club in Lamb Street, Murgon from 5:00pm to 7:00pm this evening. This two hour spectacular will feature arts, dance, theatre, music and video created by students, and admission is by gold coin donation. Everyone is welcome.

St Joseph's Bingo - Murgon
St Joseph's Parish Hall in Angel Avenue, Murgon will be hosting bingo games from 7:30pm this evening. There'll be $1000 in prizes on offer as well as a canteen and lucky bingo tickets. Proceeds will go to aid St Joseph's school and community works.

8th Annual Murgon Music Muster & Bush Dance
The third day of the 8th annual Murgon Music Muster will be held at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street today, and will feature a Bush Poet's Breakfast from 7:00am to 9:00am, followed by a walk-up concert that will run from 9:00am to 12:00 noon. Entry to both the breakfast and walk-up concert is free. This evening, things will move up a notch with an Old Time Bush Dance running from 7:00pm until 10:00pm, with live music by Clyde Cameron and Doghouse. Tickets to the dance are $10 for adults and $5 for young people aged 12 to 18 (under 12s are free) and there'll be a Monte Carlo, Lucky Spots and a light supper as well. Alternately, you can buy a 4-day pass which covers tonight's dance plus all the paid entertainment on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for $65 per adult or $32.50 per child. Blue Light Disco - Kingaroy
The regular Kingaroy Blue Light Disco will be taking on a spooky Halloween theme tonight at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street. The spooktacular event will run from 6:00pm to 8:30pm this evening. Entry to the disco is restricted to young people aged from prep to 14 years who can produce their student ID. Admission is $5 and - as usual - attendees are asked to remember that Blue Light Discos are drug, alcohol, chewing gum and tobacco free. Tagalong Tour - Blackbutt
Instead of holding its regular monthly History morning, this month the Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association will be holding another one its popular Tagalong Tours this morning. The tour will leave (via car pooling) from the Roy Emerson Museum (Nukku Nook) in Hart Street, Blackbutt at 8:00am. Stops will include Hill 60 (where a wreath will be laid), reforestation areas (weather permitting), morning tea at Tennants' Auto Museum, the Jimna fire tower, bora rings, Jesse's Well and Benarkin Settlers Park, before returning to Nukku Nook at 1:00pm for a light barbecue lunch. 8th Annual Murgon Music Muster
The fourth day of the 8th annual Murgon Music Muster will be held at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street today, and will feature a Bush Poet's Breakfast from 7:00am to 9:00am, followed by a walk-up concert that will run from 9:00am to 11:30am. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Drought Relief Comedy Night - Kingaroy
Don't let the storms fool you ... the drought isn't over and local farmers still need help! Five Brisbane comedians are coming to Kingaroy from 7:00pm until late tonight to help raise spirits and much-needed funds for Graham House (who will then distribute assistance to local farming families in need). The fun night will be held at Ant Hill - the Kingaroy Red Ants' club house at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. This 18-years-and-over event (the comedy acts contain some adult content) will also feature music by local band RiSA. Cost is $40 per person, which includes a steak burger. Five cricket matches are scheduled to be played around the South Burnett today. In A Grade, Southern District Devils will take on Murgon District in the local derby played at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy. In B Grade, Kingaroy Services will face Murgon District at Taabinga State School Oval, Nanango will play Kallindale Warriors at Nanango and Blackbutt will take on competition leaders Kumbia at Blackbutt. Wondai are also scheduled to play Cherbourg (venue to be confirmed). All games start at 12:30pm.

The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding their quarterly CAMS Khanacross Multiclub Rally at their racing track this weekend (the club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston on the Proston-Boondooma Road). Racing will commence around 8:00am this morning and conclude around 2:00pm tomorrow. There'll also be burnouts from around 5:30pm tonight. Art Exhibition Opening - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) will be opening its November exhibition at 11:00am this morning. Assist Workshop - Blackbutt
The first day of a two-day ASIST interactive workshop in suicide first-aid will be held at the Blackbutt RSL and the corner of Douglas and Muir Streets in Blackbutt from 9:00am to 5:00pm today (the second day will be tomorrow). ASIST teaches participants to recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—ASIST can be learned and used by anyone. Zombie Invasion - Nanango
The South Burnett's first-ever Zombie Invasion will be held at Lion's Park near Tipperary Flat on the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD this afternoon as a fundraiser for an All Inclusive Playground at Butter Factory Park. The invasion will start with a marshalling of zombies at 3:00pm in preparation for a 5:00pm lumber from the park to Hannibal's Bucket - no doubt, much to the shock of passing motorists - then back to Lions Park for a dance to the sounds of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" before things wrap up at around 7:00pm. Naturally, guests are encouraged to dress in their best zombie outfits, and there'll be prizes for the best zombie, best zombie hunter and best themed group. Tickets to participate in this quirky event are $15 per adult, $10 for students/concessions or $35 for a family of four, and they can be purchased online. Group Cycling - Wondai To Tingoora
The Social Wellness Group will be holding a social cycling outing along the South Burnett Rail Trail today. The ride will depart from the gazebo behind the Wondai Timber Museum at 8:15am and riders will try to pedal to Tingoora and back again - a distance of about 15km - at their own pace. It's a fairly easy ride but there'll also be support vehicles available if you can't complete the full course. The first day of the weekend-long annual Cooyar Trail Ride will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds in Rangemore Road, Cooyar from 10:00am this morning until around 3:00pm this afternoon, when it will be followed by novelty events.
