Yellowbelly Fishing Competition - Lake Boondooma
The 29th annual Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition will be held at Boondooma Dam near Proston all this weekend, commencing at 5:00am today and concluding at around lunchtime tomorrow. The event - organised by the Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking Association in conjunction with a bevy of sponsors - will have adult and junior sections and numerous cash prizes for each weigh-in period. A licensed bar, BBQ and food and drink stalls will be operating for the duration and accommodation for competitors is available at the adjoining Lake Boondooma Tourist Park. Competition entry fees are $20 for adults and $5 for children and all competitors will need to have a Stocked Impoundment Permit to take part. Last year more than 1100 keen anglers wet their lines for a share of the $4,500 prize-monies and large numbers of an campers packed the dam's camping grounds. Legends Of League - Cherbourg
Rugby league fans are in for a big pre-season treat today if they head to Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg. Gates will open at 9:00am and there'll be a full day of footy between local teams right through until 5:00pm, when a team of Australian NFL legends will take on a team of Cherbourg Hornets legends. The day's matches will get underway at 9:30am with U8s and U10s from Murgon, Wondai and Cherbourg battling it out, followed at 10:55asm by a match between Murgon and Cherbourg primary schoolers. At 11:45am, high school teams from Murgon and Kingaroy will take to the field; and then at 12:50pm, a South Burnett men's team will play Oakey's Redbelly Blacks. At 2:00pm, a Cherbourg women's team will play the Brisbane Natives; and at 3:00pm a Cherbourg Men's team will play the Brisbane Natives. Finally - at 4:40pm Cherbourg U6s and U8s will play Murgon juniors before the main match gets underway. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children or $25 for a family, and a canteen will be operating in the grounds. Everyone is welcome!
Chinese New Year Banquet - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt-Yarraman QCWA will be hosting a deluxe 4-course Chinese New Year Banquet at the Blackbutt RSL at the corner of Douglas and Muir Streets, Blackbutt from 6:00pm until late tonight. The banquet is being prepared by a trained Cantonese-style cook and was a great success last year. Tickets are $40 for adults or $20 for youngsters under 15, but numbers are strictly limited and only a handful remain. You can secure yours by phoning Trish on 0408-624-116.
Zombie Invasion Volunteers BBQ - Nanango
A BBQ will be held at Butter Factory Park in Drayton Street, Nanango from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm this afternoon to thank the many volunteers who helped organise Nanango's inaugural Zombie Invasion late last year (sausages supplied, but BYO drinks). People who'd like to join the Zombie Invasion committee or would like more information about it are also very welcome.
St Mary's P&F Family Fun Day - Kingaroy
St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy will be holding its annual P&F Family Fun Day from 3:00pm to around 6:00pm this afternoon on the lawns outside the Maryknoll Centre. There'll be free family games for children of all ages, face painting, a free sausage sizzle and drinks and snacks on sale and there's no admission fee. Everyone is welcome! Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Mind, Body, Spirit & Soul Expo - Nanango
A Mind, Body, Spirit & Soul Expo will be held at Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 10:00am to 3:00pm today. The Expo will feature workshops on a number of topics and there'll be stallholders offering a range of products and services, too. There'll also be lucky door prizes of coffee and cake vouchers. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Grape Stomp Festival - Kingaroy
Kingsley Grove Winery at Stuart Valley Drive off the Bunya Highway south-west of Kingaroy will be holding a Grape Stomp Festival from 11:00am to 4:00pm today. The event will allow guests to pick grapes from the winery's vineyard, then participate in the age-old tradition of grape stomping (all equipment will be supplied). The day will kick off at 11:00am and there'll be a long table harvest buffet available in the winery from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm, along with a waterslide, jumping castle and face painting for children. Spaces are limited, though, so guests are welcome to BYO chairs or picnic blanklets. Tickets are $65 per head for adults or $20 per head for children aged 12-17 (under 12s are free). More details? Cooyar High Tea
The Cooyar Agricultural Society will be holding a High Tea at the Cooyar and District Memorial Hall on the New England Highway from 2:00pm this afternoon. With the annual Cooyar Show looming soon, a highlight of the High Tea will be the judging of this year's Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador.
