South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Goomeri Lions Christmas Carnival
The Goomeri Lions Christmas Carnival will be on again at Breitkreutz Oval, behind the swimming pool. The fun will kick off at 4:00pm. This year's carnival will feature Christmas stalls, live music, a BBQ, bar, food stalls, a coffee van, ice creams, snow cones, fairy floss and soft drinks, plus games and competitions for adults. Children can also get to enjoy a jumping castle, face painting, pony rides and other activities, and Santa will be paying a visit during the course of evening, too. This year's carnival will be capped off with a big fireworks about 7:30pm, courtesy of Northern AgriServices, and everyone is welcome!
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Boondooma Homestead Christmas Gathering
Boondooma Homestead on the Durong-Mundubbera Road will be holding its annual Christmas Gathering for volunteers, locals and friends of Boondooma Homestead at the homestead's big barn from 4:30pm this afternoon. Guests should BYO drinks, meat for a barbecue, and a plate of finger foods, sweets or salads to share. Santa will be arriving for the children at around 6:30pm and there'll likely be some carol-singing too. Everyone is welcome! PS: Parents are asked to bring along a wrapped and tagged gift to the value of about $5 for each of their children. These will be put into Santa's bag for presentation tonight).
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Yarraman Christmas Carnival
Yarraman will be holding its Christmas Carnival at the Recreation Grounds in Margaret Street, Yarraman from 5:00pm to 8:00pm tonight, sponsored by the Yarraman Progress Association. Santa Claus will be making an appearance for children during the course of the evening, and the winners of the town's Christmas Tree Displays competition will be announced as well. There'll also be food and drink stalls, a jumping castle and slide, fairy floss, novelty stalls, a treasure hunt, live entertainment and raffles. Everyone is welcome!
Women Like Us - Kingaroy
Comedians Mandy Nolan and Ellen Briggs will be performing their comedy show "Women Like Us" at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 8:00pm to 10:00pm tonight (doors open at 7:00pm). Tickets are $35 and they can be purchased at the Lucky Charm Newsagency in Kingaroy or online.
South Burnett Cricket
The local derby between Murgon Crusaders v Southern District Devils heads this weekend's round of South Burnett cricket matches. The A Grade game will be played at Murgon Sportsground. In B Grade, Kingaroy Services will take on Cherbourg at Taabinga State School; Kumbia Rattlers will play Kallindale Warriors at Kumbia Sportsground; Murgon will play Blackbutt at Murgon Sportsgrounds; and Wondai will play the Nanango Scorpions at Wondai Sportsgrounds. All games start at 12:30pm and spectators are more than welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
SBCO End Of Year Concert - Kumbia
The South Burnett Community Orchestra will be staging their popular End Of Year Concert at Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia from 5:30pm this afternoon (doors open at 5:00pm). This evening's concert will feature the full orchestra, the SBCO String Ensemble and SBCO Wind Quintet, and they'll be playing new and familiar music, along with some Christmas favourites. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for concessions or $30 for a family. There'll also be an optional BBQ dinner at interval offering adults meals for $15 and children's meals (12 and under) for $5, but to plan the catering these need to be booked by December 5. Jeff Hancox - Kingaroy
The South Burnett's very own Elvis (Jeff Hancox) will be performing at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm until around 11:30pm this evening. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-4881.
Wondai Parkrun - 100 Run Celebration
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed event at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Today's event is extra special as the group is celebrating its 100th run since starting in 2017. There'll also be a healthy living stall and fresh fruit, courtesy of the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service. Runners (and walkers) follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Christmas Shootout Speedway - Kingaroy
The last speedway meeting for 2018 will get under way this evening at the Kingaroy Showgrounds track. There'll be racing action in four categories: Lightning Sprints Queensland Title, Round 5 of the Super Sedans series, Round 5 of the Wingless Sprints Super Series, and Modified Sedans. Entry cost: Adults $25, aged / disability pension $15, students $15, children 12 & under free, and family pass $65. Main Gates open at 2:00pm and racing starts at 5:00pm. (Rumour has that Santa may be paying a visit, too).
Christmas Shopping Night - Proston
Proston's annual Christmas Shopping Night will be held from 5:00pm this afternoon in Blake Street. NB Inspirations, the Jacaranda Tearooms and Proston Health & Beauty will all be open with great discounts and friendly service to provide a rare opportunity for Christmas shopping after hours. In addition, Proston QCWA, the P&C, Scouts, the Coverty Creek Community Club and BIEDO will also be there with stalls offering all manner of things. Everyone is welcome!
Christmas Toy Run Parade - Kingaroy
Motorcyclists taking part in this year's South Burnett Christmas Toy Run will be meeting up at Sunshine Mitre 10 in Rogers Drive, Kingaroy between 9:30am and 11:00am this morning for a sausage sizzle breakfast, then going for a ride around the CBD before meeting up again at Kingaroy Showgrounds to deliver this year's collections of soft toys to the Salvation Army for distribution to needy families. Spectators are very welcome to watch the parade, come along to the Showgrounds to inspect the bikes, or join the riders for lunch afterwards at Kingaroy's Commercial Hotel.
Family Fun Night - Blackbutt
Blackbutt will be concluding their Christmas celebrations with a Family Fun Night at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road from 6:00pm to 10:00pm this evening. The event will feature amusement rides, a water slide, carols, food and drink, and Santa will be putting in an appearance around 6:30pm too. Distraction and DJs - Kingaroy
