South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
100th Annual Burrandowan Picnic Races
The 100th annual Burrandowan Picnic Races will be held at the Burrandowan Race Track 66km southwest of Kingaroy from 9:00am this morning until very late tonight. The first race in this year's five-race program will leave the barriers at 1:35pm and there'll also be a Fashions on the Field competition with prizes; a licensed bar operating from 11:00am to 11:00pm; country food available all day from the race club's cafe; other food stalls in the grounds; and the traditional pit-fired barbecues at night (BYO plate and cutlery), followed by entertainment by a local band. There'll also be picnic hampers available for pick-up, but you'll need to book these in advance. Pursers Coaches will be running buses from Kingaroy at 10:30am and noon. Entry to this year's meeting is $25 per head and tickets must be booked in advance online. NB: Free overnight camping is available on Saturday night only (small tents and swags only, no caravans or camper trailers).
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Mother's Day Bazaar Markets - Blackbutt
The Blackbutt Avocado Festival committee will be hosting a special Mothers Day edition of their Top of the Range Markets from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail near the Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt. The markets are a fund-raiser for the Blackbutt Avocado Festival (which will be held on September 10 this year) and they'll be offering a wide range of homemade items plus avocado-themed wares, along with food and drink stalls and live entertainment. Everyone is welcome and there's no admission fee.
Fun Butt Run - Blackbutt
A Fun Butt Run along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail will be held at Blackbutt's BVRT trailhead just next to the Roy Emerson Museum in Hart Street from 7:00am to around 8:30am this morning. This event is a fun walk or run (your choice) over a 2km or 5km distance (again, your choice) and there's no charge to take part. Afterwards, participants can browse the Mother's Day Bazaar Markets. Everyone is welcome!
Beginner Improver Show - Nanango
The South Burnett Western Performance Club will be holding a Beginners and Improvers Show at their grounds in Racecourse Road, Nanango from 8:00am to aropund 3:00pm today. Today's activities will; be judged by Helen Bentley and all keen horse people are very welcome to come along as either participants (fees apply) or spectators (free). Railway Parkrun - Proston
The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
2022 Kingaroy Eisteddfod
The annual Kingaroy Eisteddfod will be running at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 8:30pm until about 5:00pm this afternoon. Today is the seventh day of dance entries, and the public is very welcome to come along and watch. Entry fees per session are $5 for adults, $3 for pensioners and children under 5 are free. The Eisteddfod will conclude tomorrow.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their workshop buildings at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for their regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am and continuing on until noon. The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Yarraman Men's Shed

Proston Rally & Burnouts
The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding their quarterly Proston Rally at their racing track this weekend (the club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston at 757 Proston-Boondooma Road). Racing will commence around 11:00am this morning and there'll also be burnouts from around 6:00pm, with racing wrapping up around 2:00pm tomorrow afternoon. Up to 50 cars attend Proston Rally Club meetings from all over Queensland and NSW and spectators are very welcome. There'll also be a BBQ and soft drinks stand running throughout the event, as well as a bar running from 5:00pm tonight and a hearty breakfast supplied by the Proston Lions club available early on Sunday morning. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 8:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Uncle Bob's Jug Band - Maidenwell
Uncle Bob's Jug Band will be performing at the Maidenwell Hotel in the heart of Maidenwell from 7:00pm until later tonight. Admission is free.

Winter Fashions Launch - Proston
NB Inspirations will be launching their Winter fashion collection at the Jacaranda Tearooms in Blake Street, Proston with a High Tea at 2:00pm this afternoon, followed by a showcase of the coming season's collection. Tickets are $20 per head and afterwards the stock can be viewed at NB Inspirations' department store just a few doors away. Saturday Rugby League - Wondai
Junior SBRL games will be played at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning. These will be followed at 11:20am with an U14s match between Cherbourg and Chinchilla, and then at 12:20pm with another U14s game between Murgon and Nanango. After this, the first A-grade game of the day will be played between the Wondai Wolves and Murgon Mustangs at 1:30pm, and this will be followed by a second A-grade match between Cherbourg's Hornets and the Nanango Stags at 3:30pm. A bar and canteen will be operating in the grounds and spectators are very welcome.
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
Kingaroy Islanders will play Barambah at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy at 6:30pm tonight in the third round of this season's local football competition. A canteen will be in operation and spectators are very welcome!
