Wondai Country Running Festival
The second (and final) day of the weekend-long, family friendly Wondai Country Running Festival will be held in and around Wondai today. The festival will kick off early at 6:30am with a 42.2km full marathon, followed at 7:00am with a 21.1km half marathon and at 7:30am with a 10km run. Spectators can patronise fopod and coffee vans while they wait for the winners to return, which should occur around 10:30am. You can get the complete activity program on the Festival's website. Note: This festival is usually held in June, but it was set back a month this year by the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure it complies with current restrictions.
30th Anniversary Of Wondai Air Crash
A commemoration service will be held at the crash site memorial near Wondai Airport on the Wondai-Proston Road north of the town's CBD at around 11:45am this morning to mark the 30th anniversary of a tragic 1990 plane crash that claimed five lives. The service will be followed by light refreshments at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street.
Junior Motorcycle Club Race Day
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding their first Race Day since February on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this morning, with gates opening at 8:00am and racing from 10:00am until around noon. The club is for young motorcycle riders aged 4 to 16 and spectators are very welcome. The Race Club's usual canteen won't be operating today (so BYO food and refreshments) and COVID-safe restrictions will apply. More details? Phone Simon on 0439-716-742. You can also read more about the Junior Motorcycle Club on our website.
