South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Country Running Festival
The first day of the weekend-long, family friendly Wondai Country Running Festival will be held in and around Wondai's CBD today. The festival will kick off early at 7:00am and will incorporate markets (see entry below), several Fun Runs/Walks, and two McEuen Forest Trail Runs this afternoon. There'll also be a full day of live music in Coronation Park along with a bumper Wondai Markets, capped off by a licensed Country Roast Dinner at the Wondai Showgrounds that will get underway at 5:30pm tonight. Tomorrow the Festival will conclude with a 10km Rail Trail run, a half marathon and a full 42km marathon along the South Burnett Rail Trail. More than 500 runners have alrfeady registered to take part in this year's festival and you can get the complete program on the Festival's website. Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 1:30pm today, with a genuinely bumper roll-up of stallholders selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables through to arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks, foods and exotic clothing as part of the Wondai Country Running Festival. There'll also be a non-stop program of live entertainment running on the Percy Iszlaub Sound Shell all morning as Running Festival racers go through their paces on the nearby South Burnett Rail Trail, and the market's BBQs will be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. Nanango Parkrun
The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Nanango Mini Market
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices - ranging from plants to craft work, DVDs, bric-a-brac, glassware, books, jewellery, photographic work and mosaic art - the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1.20 soft drinks ($2 for a coke) and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Entry is free and new stallholders are also very welcome, with stall fees starting at just $5. In addition, this is a COVID Safe market as well. More details? Phone Sue on 0419-319-981.
Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
The historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its monthly Pig On A Spit evening from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment from Arthur Nettelfield and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! The hotel also has roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu for those who prefer not to put pork on their fork, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only), along with Little Butcher meat tray raffles to raise funds for Tanduringie State School. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Kumbia Book Club

Mr Q At The Palace - Nanango
The South Burnett's favourite rock and blues band Mr Q will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Fitzroy Street, Nanango from 8:00pm until late tonight. Tony, Gavin and the boys will be delivering their upbeat mix of classic pub rock and new faves to cap off the hotel's 5-month run of live music on Saturday nights. There's no admission and the hotel's kitchen will be running if you want dinner beforehand or a snack during the show. Everyone's welcome! More details? John Lindsay - Linville
The Linville Hotel in George Street, Linville will have ballads, blues and occasionally psychedelic country rock entertainer John Lindsay performing during lunch and dinner today (ie 11:30 to 2:00pm, and 5:00pm to 8:00pm). The hotel's kitchen will be serving up warming winter treats, and there are free camping sites across the road if you want to stay over. Saturday Rugby League - Wondai
This weekend's local league competition will be played at the Wondai Sportsgrounds off the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD today. Because of school holidays, there's no junior league this week. But in A-Grade, the Wondai Wolves will play Nanango's Stags at 1:15pm, and this will be followed by a second top drawer match betweem Cherbourg's Hornets and Kingaroy's Red Ants at 3:00pm (Murgon's Mustangs have the bye this week). A bar and canteen will be operating on site and spectators are very welcome.
Brass Monkeys - Kingaroy
The Brass Monkeys will be performing at Kingaroy RSL's Tobruk Room in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm until around 11:30pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon

The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
